Addiction

What is Addiction?

Addiction is a compulsive seeking, and then obtaining, of a substance while behavior increasingly becomes out of control. A condition that results when a person ingests a substance (alcohol, cocaine, nicotine) or engages in an activity (gambling) that can be pleasurable. The continued use of, which becomes compulsive and interferes with ordinary life responsibilities, such as work or relationships, even health. It’s  a primary, chronic disease involving brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry; it can lead to relapse, progressive development, and the potential for fatality if not treated. It is characterized by a tolerance compulsion for and obsession about the drug.

There are two mainly types of addiction :-

Symptoms of Substance Addiction :-

  1. Increased absence from work and social routines.
  2. Isolation and secretive behavior.
  3. Changes in appetite or sleep patterns.
  4. Unusual or increased irritability.
  5. Financial problems or an unexplained need for money.
  6. Severe mood swings.
  7. Any unexplained changes in behavior.

  2. Increased Frequency
  3. Obsession
  4. Psychological Problems
  5. Persistence to Continue
