STOMACH ULCERS: SYMPTOMS, TREATMENT AND PREVENTION

Stomach Ulcers: Before knowing about the symptoms, treatment and prevention of stomach ulcers, let’s first get to know it well!

Stomach ulcers, also known as peptic ulcers, are the painful sores formed in the lining of the stomach or small intestine. A thick layer of mucus protects the stomach from the digestive juices and acid but when this layer is reduced, stomach ulcer finds its way. The digestive acids are thus enabled to eat the tissues of the lining away. A peptic ulcer of the stomach is called a gastric ulcer; of the duodenum, a duodenal ulcer; and of the oesophagus, an oesophageal ulcer. It differs from erosion because it extends deeper into the lining of the oesophagus, stomach, or duodenum and incites more of an inflammatory reaction from the tissues that are involved.

Ask a Doctor  Consult a Doctor

Some of the major causing agents are the long-term usage of non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory medicines or NSAID pain relievers like ibuprofen, etc. Other causes include an infection in the digestive system caused by the bacteria H. Pylori; poor diet; weak immune system; high amount of stress; poor lifestyle habits. Excessive smoking and alcohol intake is also another cause. Ulcers also seem to run in families. Older adults are also more on the risk of getting an ulcer.

STOMACH ULCERS SYMPTOMS:

An ulcer may or may not have symptoms. And the most common symptom is stomach ache or a burning sensation up from the neck down to the belly button. The severity of the ulcer changes the symptoms and the severity of the symptoms; therefore, depends upon the severity of the ulcer. Other symptoms include:

 STOMACH ULCERS TREATMENT:

The treatment varies depending on the cause of the ulcer. Most ulcers can be treated with a prescription or a course of antibiotics, or a medication called a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) but in rare cases, surgery may be required. Antacids are used as an effective treatment to treat ulcers as they neutralize existing acid in the stomach. Some ulcers, however, heal even without medications although they can recur as well. Therefore, the major problems resulting from ulcers are related to ulcer complications. Complications include bleeding, perforation, and obstruction of emptying of the stomach.

STOMACH ULCERS PREVENTION:

Ulcers can also be prevented with certain lifestyle changes, few of which are listed below:

  • Don’t smoke.
  • Avoid alcohol.
  • Don’t overuse aspirin and/or NSAIDs.
  • On indication of symptoms of an ulcer, consult a doctor before it worsens.
  • Clean eating habits
  • Maintaining hygiene

Most ulcers caused by H. pylori are completely treatable. But untreated stomach ulcers can lead to more serious problems, like internal bleeding and stomach cancer. If you suspect you have an ulcer, don’t ignore it. Speak to your doctor, make a plan, and get treatment.

Bad Effects of High Cholesterol

BAD EFFECTS OF HIGH CHOLESTEROLHigh blood cholesterol is a condition when the cholesterol exceeds the normal limit. Yes, the body needs it but as all the other things, in limits!  It is a type of fat in the blood that the body needs to function normally. Cholesterol is used as a building block for many structures as well as other chemicals and hormones that are essential for the body’s activities. The body creates it and one also gets it from certain foods they eat.

Ask a Doctor  Consult a Doctor

High Cholesterol, Cholesterol, symptoms, causes, treatment, health care

]The body uses cholesterol to produce many hormones, vitamin D, and the bile acids that help to digest fat. But, only a small amount of cholesterol, and when there’s too much cholesterol in the bloodstream, it may be deposited along the walls of arteries, including the coronary arteries of the heart, the carotid arteries to the brain, and the arteries that supply blood to the legs and the intestines. Which in turn causes narrowing and blockage of the arteries, producing signs and symptoms originating from the particular part of the body that has decreased blood supply.

See:  5 Foods that Fight High Cholesterol

Side Effects of High Cholesterol

The mere definition establishes the fact that it is not good for the health and the following are the effects of the high cholesterol:

  • High cholesterol can create a bile imbalance, leading to gallstones. According to the National Digestive Disease Information Clearinghouse, more than 80% of gallstones are cholesterol stones.
  • Very high cholesterol can lead to fatty deposits within your ligaments and skin, as well your liver and spleen. The enlargement of your liver or spleen due to fatty deposits places pressure on other organs within the abdominal cavity, leading to an unexplained stomach or abdominal pain.
  • When plaque builds up in the arteries that carry blood to the brain, the brain is deprived of oxygen. Brain cells quickly become damaged and start to die (stroke).
  • As coronary arteries narrow due to the cholesterol deposit, it’s harder for blood to make it to the heart. And if an area of plaque breaks open, it can result in a blood clot, which can block blood flow altogether. This puts one at a great risk of having a heart attack.
  • One of the main side effects of high cholesterol is a progressive narrowing of the arteries and hardening of the artery walls, a condition called atherosclerosis. This condition causes the arteries to narrow and harden, increasing the risk of an arterial blockage or blood vessel rupture.
  • Plaque can also build up and interfere with blood flow to the arms and legs (peripheral arterial disease). If the blood supply to the limbs is blocked, there may be numbness or pain. There’s an increased risk of infection in those limbs. Lack of blood can cause tissue death (gangrene) too.
  • Another potential long-term side effect of high blood cholesterol is an increased strain on your heart muscle due to the development of the cholesterol-linked vascular disease. When the arteries narrow the heart pumps harder to push blood through the blood vessels, often leading to an elevation in the heart rate. This puts a strain on your heart over time. Without the apt treatment, this heart strain may increase the risk of potentially fatal heart failure.
  • Angina or chest pain is another effect of the choking arteries and a warning of the red flag to cholesterol.

What is Dental Illness Inlay & Onlay: Which one I need? Procedure & Cost

In recent times, restoration of the missing tooth structure with an artificial filling like Inlays and Onlays are few of the widely accepted techniques to get rid of such common complains of Dental illness. An effective and a good care of the mouth is very essential for an individual’s personal hygiene and general wellness. It is also equally important for maintaining one’s overall appearance. There are specialized and dedicated doctors for taking care of your dental health. Consulting a dentist and hygienists acts as a major relief to such problems because these doctors or experts take great care and efforts to identify the causes and treat any type of gum disease or any other related problems at an early stage to keep you, your teeth, your gums, and your mouth healthy.

See: How to make your Yellow tooth, White Again

A highly crucial need of individual’s health is to take proper and effective care of all their body parts, including the dental parts. With the changing times, dental health problems are also being linked to few major chronic health problems like strokes, diabetes, artery diseases, giving birth to premature babies, lower birth weights, and many more. Ignorance of oral health may be alarming. Any type of untreated oral disease may lead you to catch hold of certain gum problems or may even lead to some loss of a tooth or any other teeth related problems or dental issues.

Primarily, the Dental Diseases are categorized into 3 major groups:

Cavity formation or Tooth Decay:

This occurs when we allow plague to remain and settle on the surface of our tooth for a certainly longer period of time. Plague emits a substance that contains bacteria in it. Those microbial bacteria produce acids and feed on the sweets and sugars that we consume throughout the day. Eventually, this phenomenon leads to the formation of tooth cavities and Tooth decay.

Gum Diseases:

This condition is also caused by the bacteria that are produced by the plague. These bacteria produce acids which affect the gums and infect them. They may also make the gums swollen or puffy. Sometimes it may also cause bleeding from your gums after your brush or floss your tooth. Further, it may also give you a bad smelling mouth with foul breath. However, all these problems can be treated with professional help and care. Keeping a good oral hygiene also helps.

Oral Cancers:

Anyone and everyone may get trapped with oral cancer, however, the ones who follow unhealthy oral habits like consumption of tobacco, cigarettes, alcohol, hookah, cigars, etc. are at a higher risk side. Oral cancers may affect any part of your mouth including gums, tongue, lips or any other associated parts as well as throat, cheeks, larynx. Symptoms and signs of oral cancers include bleeding, swelling, soreness, white or red patches, etc. It is always recommended to consult a healthcare professional immediately if any of these symptoms occur.

See: Healthy Diet for Teeth

As the time passes, an untreated dental illness may get riskier and even lead to a complete loss of your tooth. Although, any type of dental illness can be prevented by following regular dental check-up routines and periodic tooth examinations. Maintaining a proper oral hygiene and getting timely treatments are important for maintaining a healthy oral health. Moreover, taking regular dental care is very crucial for your overall health and well-being.

These days, the process of tooth extraction, dental fillings, crowning or any other dental treatments are very effective, quick, and hardly engages any pain. The process of its healing may get a little tricky, however, with the support of right advisory and right assistance, the complications or any related problems may be avoided. Further, once the wound gets healed up, then the doctor may advise you to undergo certain repair and replacement possibilities like dental implants. Such artificial replacement solutions and techniques are encouraged by dentists because the extracted tooth may have created a gap which may lead to degeneration of the tooth bones and enamel, and filling such gaps are important.

There are several cases where the tooth suffers from some of the other types of damage or decay. Getting the damage repaired and treating these problems are generally too extensive if you treat it with the process of simple filling, although not extensive enough if you require a full-coverage crown. Therefore, in most of these cases, the best available option today to restore your tooth like a natural one that you lost, may be possible with the process of a Dental Inlay or Onlay.

In case you require crowning of your tooth and you are looking an option for a crown, then, a dentist would probably recommend you go for a dental inlay or Onlay instead of opting for a crown. Although it is a well-known fact that both these options of tooth restoring are good, however, there are slight differences between the two. Dental inlay and dental outlay are alternative solutions for dental crowns. These are porcelain fillings that are created in the laboratories for tooth restorations and to strengthen the damaged or decayed tooth. These solutions are generally deemed to serve the purpose by offering some indirect options that lie between the choices of direct fillings and a crown.

Dental Inlay

Dental inlay is an indistinguishable way to repair the tooth gums. They are available in porcelain material options or in the form of a composite resin which matches with the original colour of your natural tooth. Typically, an inlay option is more durable as compared to the composite fillings. In addition to this, inlays are also far more affordable as compared to a crown.

Dental Onlay

Dental Onlay is another form of artificial and indirect filling. Onlays help in providing your tooth with a stronger support and provides a long-lasting repair solution for your decayed, damaged or broken tooth. Unlike the inlay that is bonded with your damaged tooth, similarly, the Onlay also bonds itself with the surface.

dental, inlay, onlay, teeth care

The difference in the bonding of the two is that inlays bond them with the centre of the tooth whereas the outlay procedure bonds itself with the entire biting surface of the tooth. The material used for creating dental Onlays can be porcelain, gold or resin. However, the right choice of material being used usually depends on the location at which the Onlay will be located. For example, porcelain is considered the best option if you want it for the smile line, whereas resin is considered perfect if you want this for the grinding purpose. All dental Onlays are generally very easy to maintain and clean. All efforts are taken that they are designed in such a way that they look very similar to your natural tooth.

Which one do I Need: Dental Inlay or Onlay?

Both the solutions, i.e., dental inlays or dental Onlays, are forms of indirect fillings. It means that that the filling is fabricated at a dental laboratory prior to bonding it to your tooth. The bonding process is then carried over by your dentist at their clinics.

The treatment process of indirect fillings is generally called as an “inlay” if it fixes itself inside the little gaps or cups of the molar or premolar tooth. To its contrast, the treatment process of indirect fillings is termed as an “Onlay” if it fixes itself with one or more of such cups. Whatever is the requirement, in both the cases, the procedure for fixing an inlay or an Onlay remains the same.

Procedure & Cost

Opting for the procedures of an inlay or Onlay helps you in retaining a major part of your natural tooth structure while being drilled out. Medical science aims to always preserve your natural tooth to as much extent as possible, and therefore inlays and Onlays are generally recommended instead of crowns. The procedure of fixing inlays and Onlays usually involves two sessions. The entire process is carried out with the aid of local anaesthetic to prevent any form of pain or discomfort during the treatment procedure.

The steps for inlay or Onlay procedure includes:

  1. Numbing of your tooth and its surrounding area with the support of some local anaesthesia
  2. Removing of the decay or infection
  3. Preparing of the artificial tooth impression
  4. Sending the tooth impression to a dental laboratory
  5. Based on the impressions, a model of your tooth is prepared
  6. A material used for creating an inlay or Onlay can be gold or natural tooth coloured ceramic or resin
  7. A temporary filling is attached to your tooth till the time you get your permanent one

The materials and solutions of inlays and Onlays are strong, durable and long-lasting. They don’t require any extra care than any other natural tooth. Daily brushing of your teeth, regular flossing, and routine professional cleanings at dental clinics are very important if you want to make sure that your restoration lasts for a longer duration and for years to come.

The cost of Dental Inlay and Onlay depends on the quantity of fixation and the material you choose for your artificial filling. It varies a lot depending on the case and varies from tooth to tooth. However, there are low-cost dental procedures available for this problem as well. Gold inlays are costlier than the porcelain ones.

Gynecomastia Symptoms, Causes, Surgery & Treatment

Gynecomastia is a medical term used for man boobs. It is a condition in which the breast glands swell and enlarge abnormally. The term refers to the enlargement of breasts in male tissues. It is an endocrine system disorder found in males. It is a very common problem among boys and men. Generally, it is caused by the hormonal imbalance, especially due to the imbalance of male hormones like estrogen and testosterone. Normally, both male and female bodies produce both these hormones – estrogen and testosterone, but yes, in different levels and separate extents.

Our body hormones testosterone and estrogen are the most basic and most important components of our body functioning. These hormones responsible for controlling the entire process of the development and maintenance of many major and genital organ features in both men as well as women.

Gynecomastia, treatment, symptoms, causes, help

Testosterone also called the male hormone is responsible for controlling the male traits and characteristics for example muscle mass and body hairs. Similarly, estrogen also called the female hormone is responsible for controlling the female traits and characteristics such as the growth of breast glands. Estrogen is commonly referred to as female hormone however it also affects the male body because male even produces this hormone. It is not exclusively a female hormone. It is produced by the male as well as female.

However, the quantity in which estrogens are produced by males and by females vary. Normally males produce them in smaller quantities as compared to females. But when the level of estrogen becomes too high in males then it causes gynecomastia, also referred to as man boob. There may be times when the level of estrogen becomes imbalanced with the levels of testosterone.

Gynecomastia, Gynecomastia causes, Gynecomastia treatment, Gynecomastia prevention

Gynecomastia may occur either in both the breasts or in any one breast as well. Sometimes it also affects in an uneven manner. Mostly the newborns, the growing boys, or the boys entering their puberty get affected by gynecomastia when hormonal changes are taking place in their body or may also be due to some other reasons at the time. Many a time some older men may also get affected by this problem. In general, gynecomastia is not a serious disease or problem. However, it may be a reason for the concern among boys and men. They sometimes feel awkward and sometimes even get embarrassed.

Gynecomastia is a very common problem which affects around 70% of teenage boys. However, if this is the cause, then gynecomastia can be just a temporary problem. The newborn boys and the teenage boys generally face temporary gynecomastia due to the hormonal changes that are occurring in their body at the time of puberty. Treatments of gynecomastia give the most effective results when their treatments are done within the problem period of two years. Or within 2 years of the male breast enlargement sequence.

Few boys and men even complain of pain in their breasts. This pain may also be due to gynecomastia. Consulting a medical expert or a doctor will generally help in getting the answer. Many times gynecomastia goes off on its own, however, there are cases when it takes time to go off or continues and persists. In such cases, opting for medication may help. Further, a surgery may also be required to get rid of this condition.  Whatever the case be, there is a cure for this problem and so it is not such a serious worry at all. It is quite a common problem.

  • A growth in the diameter and thickness of areola
  • Asymmetrical chest tissue

There are several reasons and causes as to how and why gynecomastia occurs. Few of them are listed below:

  • Hormonal imbalance in the body
  • Natural changes in the hormone
  • Increase in the production level of estrogen
  • The decrease in the production level of androgen
  • Decrease in the level of testosterone hormone as compared to the level of estrogen
  • The level of estrogen can be decreased due to certain conditions that block testosterone
  • Malnutrition
  • Aging
  • Some type of infection in the testes
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Approximately 10 to 25% of the reported cases suffering from gynecomastia are caused by the use of drugs.
  • Few health issues or medical complications found in men like the kidney failure or some kind liver disease can also cause the growth of male breasts abnormally.
  • There are many medications that are reported to be causing gynecomastia, especially few medications used for the treatments of prostate cancer, ulcer medications, HIV, chemotherapy, certain antibiotics, and many more.

Estrogen generally acts as the growth hormone that increases the growth of the male breast glands, thus increasing or enlarging its size. The causes mentioned above are few of the reasons for the occurrence of gynecomastia. Moreover, these reasons may also trigger the problem even further. In most of the cases, these are caused due to certain conditions that increase the level of estrogen in your body. Gynecomastia is generally associated with the pubertal changes in an individual.

Gynecomastia Surgery:

Surgical removal of the excess breast tissue may be required in order to remove the extra tissues in cases of chronic or severe gynecomastia. Different approaches are then applied for the surgical treatment to take place for gynecomastia. Few names for the approaches followed for surgical process includes:

Diagnosis is done based on the medical history of the patient and the physical examination reports that were prescribed by the doctor. Few laboratory investigations may also be recommended so as to detect the actual cause of the symptom.

The treatment of gynecomastia after having ignored such that it had persisted in your body for a period of 2 years or above is almost very difficult and may prove ineffective. However, there are few medications available that have been found to be very effective in curing or treating such prolonged gynecomastia complains. Otherwise, the only option left with him is a surgery. The excess tissue can be removed from that part through a surgery, called the surgical removal.

Those cases of gynecomastia that have occurred during the adolescence period are considered as moderate and mild, and their treatment involves getting an experts advice and consultation on the living habits, daily diet, exercises and walks, and so on. In contrast to this, if the case of gynecomastia gets severe then medical treatments become essential and may also require a surgical treatment process and intervention.  Both the treatment processes, i.e., the medications or the surgery, have been found to treat this problem of gynecomastia successfully.

Generally, doctors prescribe certain tests and examinations which may include blood tests or imaging studies so as to identify the possible causes of gynecomastia. In certain rare cases, however, mammography may also be prescribed. Generally, mammograms are prescribed if the doctor finds any indication or suspect a male breast cancer complication.

Risks & Control Measures:

There exist few physical complications that are associated with the problem of gynecomastia, especially the fact that it may cause certain emotional or psychological problems and concerns that may be caused due to an abnormal appearance. It may cause a psychological distress to the affected individual. Therefore, prevention is the best possible attempt we can take to stay away from getting trapped in this imbalance. For this, there are certainly few factors that may be considered and taken care of so as to control and reduce the risk of gynecomastia. Few of the control measures that be taken to control this risk are:

  • Never accept or consume any type of illegal drugs like steroids, heroin, marijuana, etc.
  • Stay away from consuming excess alcohol.
  • Always review the prescribed medications. For example – if you get to know that the medicine that you are consuming is told to cause gynecomastia, then don’t hesitate to ask your doctor for its alternative options.

Gynecomastia is generally not found to cause any harm to the body. It does not cause any physical harm. However, in very few cases it may be an indication of the underlying serious complication like testicular cancer. It is really very important to prevent yourself from attracting any serious medical concern that may also lead to some causes of gynecomastia.

Angina Pectoris (Stable Angina) Causes, Symptoms, Risk Factor & Treatment

Angina is a type of chest pain that results due to the decrease in the blood flow to the heart. When there is decreased blood flow to the heart, it means that heart is lacking sufficient oxygen. Emotional stress or physical activities are the main causes of the pain. Angina Pectoris also called as stable angina is the most common type of Angina. Stable angina is predictable which means you can actually track the pattern of the chest when you feel the pain. On the other hand, unstable angina is another type of angina which occurs suddenly and gets worse over time.

Though stable angina is less serious condition both types of angina are the symptom of underlying heart disease.

What Causes Stable Angina?

Stable Angina is a condition when the heart does not receive sufficient oxygen supply. There are many factors that can possibly reduce the oxygen supply to the heart. Some of them are:

Angina, stable Angina, Angina symptoms, Angina risk factor

What are the Risks Factors of Stable Angina?

The risk factors associated with Stable Angina include:

  • Overweight or obese
  • Medical history of Heart disease
  • Diabetic patients
  • People with High Cholesterol or High Blood Pressure
  • Smoking
  • Lack of physical activities

Unhealthy diets, vigorous workouts and extreme cold and hot weathers can also stimulate stable angina in some cases.

What are the Symptoms of Stable Angina?

The pain that occurs during the stable angina is referred to as pressure or fullness in the center of the chest. The pain may be like a heavy weight resting on your chest or a mild squeezing of the chest. The pain slowly spreads from the chest to neck, arms and shoulders.

One may notice the following symptoms while suffering from stable angina:

The symptoms usually last for 15 minutes whereas in the case of unstable angina the pain is more severe and continuous.

How is Stable Angina Diagnosed?

Your doctor will run through your medical history and perform some tests such as ECG and angiography. These tests help to diagnose the proper functioning of the heart and if the arteries are blocked. You will also be asked to perform a stress test while which your heart rhythm and breathing will be measured. This helps to find out if physical activity triggers angina.  A blood test will also be taken to measure cholesterol and C-reactive protein levels (CRP). High CRP levels can also increase the risk of heart diseases.

How is Stable Angina treated?

Treatment for stable angina includes changes in lifestyle, medication, and surgery.

Lifestyle changes: Certain lifestyle changes can help prevent future stable angina. These changes include regular exercising, eating a healthy diet consisting of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, nuts, etc. One should also quit smoking. These changes will help in the long run and reduce the risk of diabetes, cholesterol, and high blood pressure.

Medication: nitroglycerine is usually prescribed which relieves pain associated with stable angina. You will also have to take other medications to stabilize your blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol levels.

Surgery: Angioplasty is often recommended to treat stable angina. The blocked arteries can be surgically treated using surgery. Angioplasty involves a balloon which is inserted into the arteries and inflated to a required size. A stent is placed to keep the blocked artery open.

The condition often improves with medications. In addition to this, adapting yourself to lifestyle changes will reduce the chances of future stable angina.

Common Sexual Problems in Men | Symptoms & Treatment

In a country like India w,e have very low awareness in some necessary aspects of life. While research suggests that sexual dysfunction is common (43% of women and 31% of men report some degree of difficulty), it is a topic that many people are hesitant to discuss. Fortunately, most cases of sexual dysfunction are treatable, so it is important to share your concerns with your partner and doctor. Now male & female faces the different type of sexual problems based on their body functions. Here we are going to discuss important sexual problems often common to men.

Those two Major Sexual Problems in Men:

  • Ejaculation problem
  • Problem due to low testosterone

Now talking about the first problem first we need to know what is ejaculation. Ejaculation is a natural sexual phenomenon of man occurs after penetration. Now when we get to understand there is some problem with an ejaculation? So, there are 3 types of ejaculation problem commonly occurs.

1) Premature Ejaculation: This refers to the ejaculation that occurs before or very soon after penetration.
2) Inhibited or related Ejaculation: This is referred to the condition when ejaculation become very slow
3) Retrograde Ejaculation: This occurs when at orgasm the ejaculate is forced back into the bladder rather than out of penis causing extreme pain & un-comfort.

Note: All of this is curable but if we take some little precautions then probably we could get rid of these problems.

Like premature ejaculation, the most common form of sexual dysfunctions in men, often is due to nervousness over how he will perform during sex. In some cases, Premature Ejaculation is caused by a lack of attraction of partner, past events and stress. Retrograde ejaculation is common in males with diabetes or problems with the nerves in the bladder. Certain medication also causes this kind of disorder.

How to Deal with Sexy Problems in Mens?

Now to treat the person should contact the specialist doctor immediately along with his case history & if tests prove the problems positive then he should go through suggested treatment. All should know that 80% sex diseases are properly curable if identity early.

Now let’s come to the second problem which is problems due to low testosterone. Testosterone is a male hormone that controls the development of male’s secondary sexual characteristics like voice change, distribution of muscle, bone density etc. Testosterone is produced in testis & the upper normal limit of it is approximately 1000-1200 nanograms per deciliter & lower limit is about 300 ng/dl. Now if the amount of testosterone comes near to this lower limit or fall down below then we can say that person suffers from low testosterone problem. Generally, it occurs due to change in sleep pattern, Sexual dysfunction, infertility, obesity & psychological changes.

So basically if we take certain precaution it will help to recover from this problem. First of all, we have to follow proper sleep cycle, maintain a healthy weight & try to avoid stress in life. Now if a person has high sugar level he should check his diet properly to stay active & fit. Now if the condition is something serious there is a testosterone therapy which includes applying the skin patch, gel or take an injection at a particular time. So basically we need to be self-aware and a little cautious to prevent this kind of disease.

Vitamin D Deficiency | Symptoms, Causes & Cure

Vitamin D is essential for healthy bones. We get some of it from nutritious food but majorly we receive it from the sunlight. Vitamin D, known as the sunlight vitamin, is produced by the body in response to the skin being exposed to sunlight. These days most of the people are becoming more beauty conscious rather than health. They are more worried about their skin getting tanned, black spots on the skin due to dust allergy and all that. The moment they get out in the sun the make sure that they cover every inch of the body from being exposed to sunlight. Though it prevents tanning, they fail to think of the minus.

Lack of exposure to sunlight is the main cause for deficiency in vitamin D. Vitamin D is abundantly present in fish, fish liver oils, egg yolks, fortified fat spreads, fortified breakfast cereals, fortified dairy products and powdered milk. However, it is hard to get enough from it just from food.

See: 8 Ways To Reduce Headache Without Medicines / Drugs

vitamin d,Deficiency, vitamin d Deficiency, sunlight, vitamin d cure, vitamin

When do you figure out that you lack vitamin D?

If you shun the sun, suffer from milk allergies, or adhere to a strict vegan diet, then possibly you are at risk of vitamin D deficiency.

Vitamin D is essential for strong bones because it helps the body use calcium from the diet. Traditionally, vitamin D deficiency has been associated with rickets. It is a disease in which the bone tissue doesn’t properly mineralize. This leads to soft bones and skeletal deformities. Recent studies show that vitamin D has a lot of importance in protecting against a number of health diseases.

What are the symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency?

For many people the symptoms are subtle. However, certain symptoms of bone pain and muscle weakness can mean that you have a Vitamin-D deficiency. In many cases, even without symptoms vitamin D deficiency can pose a number of health risks.

Vitamin D deficiency can put people at risk of:

  • Rickets: Bone problems in children
  • Osteomalacia- bone problems in adults
  • Heart problems
  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • Cognitive impairment in elderly people.
  • Cancer
  • Hypertension
  • Glucose intolerance
  • Multiple sclerosis

What are the causes of Vitamin D deficiency?

1) Inadequate amounts of Vitamin D: When you consume only vegetarian diet, you naturally lack vitamin D in your body. This is because most of the natural sources of Vitamin-D are animal-based.

2) Your exposure to Sunlight is limited: Whenever you expose your body to sunlight, it makes Vitamin-D. If you are homebound, live in northern latitudes, wear long robes or head coverings for religious reasons, or have an occupation that prevents exposure to the sun, you are at higher risk of getting Vitamin-D deficiency.

3) You have Dark skin: The ability of the skin to produce melanin will greatly depend on the skin color. The darker your skin, the lower is its ability to produce vitamin D. Studies show that older people with darker skin are at greater risk of suffering from vitamin D deficiency.

4) Your kidneys can’t convert Vitamin D into active form: As age goes by, the ability of the kidneys to function efficiently decreases. As a result, the kidney loses its ability to convert vitamin D into active forms. This causes a deficiency in vitamin D.

5) Your digestive tract cannot absorb Vitamin D: Certain health conditions like celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, cystic fibrosis can adversely affect your intestine’s ability to absorb vitamin-D. As a result, your body lacks vitamin D.

6) Obesity: People with body mass index (BMI) greater than or equal to 30 will have low levels of vitamin-D in their body because vitamin D is extracted from the body by the fat cells.
