Successful Vaginal Birth after Cesarean: Benefits and Risk

Vaginal birth after c-section (VBAC) is the process of delivering a baby vaginally after giving birth to one
baby through a cesarean or c-section. When a woman is pregnant and is about to deliver, she always gets
two choices for delivering her sweet little baby. She may either opt for a normal vaginal delivery or opt for
a cesarean delivery. It is all planned in advance. It also depends on your medical reports and health
conditions. Before taking that delicate decision of choosing any one delivery option, one needs to be sure
of the associated benefits and risks with them.

Statistics suggest that there are several cases where women undergo successful vaginal delivery even after
having delivered via a c-section, without having any related complications. Most of the women have passed
this out successfully. However, there are certain risks that are involved during this entire process.
A few years back, it was advised that if your first delivery was a c-section, then the next ones should also be
the same. However, recent advancements in the treatments, procedures, and research now proves and
suggests that there is no harm in going for a VBAC, i.e., having a successful vaginal birth after c-section.
Now women are delivering successfully with VBAC.

vaginal delivery after cesrean

The decision of opting for the VBAC is not generally taken solely by the women. But her doctor will also
examine her case in detail, check her medical conditions and then recommend her the suitable option for
her delivery that she should opt. Decisions are finally taken based on mutual consents and understandings, however medical circumstances plan the major role.

Consult with Specialist Doctor

The decision whether you can go for VBAC or not also depends on the health of the baby and certain
external environments like your location. Doctors normally suggest that you opt for VBAC if you are
planning your delivery in a hospital rather than home births. This is also the reason why the hospitals
located in remote areas don’t recommend VBAC. Such regional hospitals are generally not well equipped
for emergency c-section requirements. The chances to have a successful VBAC increases if your pregnancy
tenure has moved normally and your baby is in a good health.

Benefits of having a vaginal birth after c-section:vaginal delivery after c-section

  •  Lower risk to catch infections
  • Temporary pain and discomfort
  •  Speedy recovery
  •  Early discharge from the hospital
  •  More comfort as compared to the c-section
  •  Lesser chances of any other related organ damage
  • Potential future complications get minimized
  • Allows you to hug your new-born soon after delivery
  • Minimizes your risk for future deliveries

Risk of having a vaginal birth after C-section:

  •  During this process, there are possibilities that the wound or mark of your previous c-section in the abdomen may get teared and result in a uterine rupture, which may create certain complications.
  • However, it may be known that uterine ruptures have been recorded to affect only 1 in 200 females undergoing this process
  • It is recommended that you choose for VBAC in properly equipped hospitals.
  • In most of the cases, the tear of this wound gets repaired, but in certain rare cases there may be severe bleedings and may call for an emergency situation. Women thus opting for VBAC have a risk to deliver via an emergency cesarean.

It is actually very difficult to predict as to who will be able to successfully deliver vaginally and who will
undergo a c-section. However, reports indicate that around 60 to 80% of women who plan for VBAC are
able to deliver it vaginally and successfully. Having a doctor on the site to monitor your labor and do a c-
section in case of any emergencies is always preferable.

Nipah Virus – Symptoms, Prevention & Cure

Nipah Virus, gaining a serious concern today in the South East Asia region, is a newly spreading virus that is causing this rare and severe disease, affecting both humans as well as animals. The root cause of this infection is contaminated by disease-ridden fruit bats who are being termed as the natural hosts of Nipah Virus Infection (NIV). Therefore, consumption of fruits that are eaten by infected bats or birds may bring you at a risk of attracting this contaminated disease.

Consult with Specialist Doctor

Nipah virus symptomsThe first Nipah virus was reported in Malaysia when it caused an inflammation and fever in the brain of pig farmers, in the year 1998. Later, in 2001, it was detected in West Bengal, India also. Again in 2004, it spread to Bangladesh and infected many people there due to consumption of date palm sap that was infected by these fruit bats. Doctors, medical experts, and researchers are trying their best to beat this virus. Till now it has affected Malaysia, India, and Bangladesh, but the source has been the same. The scary Nipah Virus is a type of viral borne zoonotic disease in which the viruses and infections of an animal get transmitted to humans. However, it can be transmitted from a human to human as well. The virus affects the brain of a person and the person starts feeling weak and low.

Consult with Specialist Doctor

Nipah virus is recently in headlines as it has spread in the Indian state of Kerala and claiming 11 lives. This virus was first reported in Malaysia in 1998. At that time, it was primarily caused in pigs and through them got transferred to humans. The virus reportedly kills 40% of afflicted people.

According to WHO (World health organization), Nipah virus diseases is a newly emerging zoonosis that causes severe disease in both animals and humans. The natural host of the virus is fruit bats of the Pteropodidae Family, Pteropus genus. The virus needs incubation period of 3-14 days. The virus can be transferred through infected bats, pigs humans who have been infected.

 Nipah Virus Symptoms:

Experts say that Nipah virus is an airborne transmission infection and can affect those who come in direct contact with contaminated bodies. NiV infection in humans has a range of clinical symptoms, from asymptomatic infection to acute respiratory syndrome and fatal encephalitis. NiV is also capable of causing diseases in pigs and other domestic animals.

The prominent Symptoms of NIV include :

  • High fever
  • A headache.
  • Encephalitis (swelling of the brain)
  • Severe Stomachache
  • Choking.
  • Sudden fever
  • Severe headaches
  • Drowsiness
  • Muscle pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Breathing problems
  • Respiratory illness
  • Neck rigidity
  • Confusion, panic, and disorientation
  • Symptoms may last for around 10 to 12 days
  • After that, the infected may get unconscious
  • The inflammation of brain leads to coma
  • Further, as the brain fever progresses, it may lead to death during its final stage.

In initial stages of the disease respiratory problems are also observed. Patients admitted with severe neurological problems also reported pulmonary (heart-related) diseases later. If this is not taken care of these symptoms can cause patients slipping into the coma in 2-4 days.

Consult with Specialist Doctor

It is recommended that each one of us be aware of the symptoms associated with this disease, as listed above. As soon as we feel any type symptom being shown, we need to immediately rush to the nearby doctor so as to avail the best use of early diagnosis and initiate its treatment as early as possible. The disease starts progressing very rapidly and the health starts deteriorating every passing minute. It starts with a sudden fever but soon progresses to unconsciousness and coma.

Nipah virus infects the brain and causes an inflammation or a swelling of the brain. Initially, the infected individual start feeling very weak and lethargic gets fever and headaches, followed by panics and confusions in the mind, and later may even go to coma followed by death within a short span of just around two days or so. The death rate reported by World Health Organization (WHO) is 75%, which is extremely high. It indicates that there are 75% death cases and hardly 25% cure for this virus. Such high is the death rate of this deadly virus infection and disease. The virus can cause coma and take away your life in just two to seven days of the virus infection. The symptoms may last for seven to ten days; however, the symptoms may even lead to Coma within a very short span of hardly 24 to 48 hours.

nipah virus, health, life

Nipah Virus Prevention:

  • It’s very important to avoid any food and drink which has had the chance to be contaminated by fruit bats. for instance the date palm fruits and sap of date palm trees.
  • Take steps to ensure they don’t drop feces on it.
  • Do not drink that is brewed in open containers near palm trees.
  • It’s also important to maintain distance with an infected person as Nipah is an airborne disease. Extra care should be taken to maintain personal and environmental hygiene by sanitizing and washing hands and clothes after contact with infected person.
  • Also use of gloves and masks while in contact with afflicted persons is highly recommended, as Nipah virus is highly contagious.
  • Clothes, utensils, and items typically used in the toilet or bathroom, like buckets and mugs, should be cleaned separately and maintained hygienically.

nipah, nipah virus, treatment, causes, help,

The virus can be spread through direct contact, and particularly transmitted through saliva. It spreads from the fruit bats to animals and raw fruits, through the biting of these infected fruit bats. It may even spread from one animal to another animal or human through fluids. Due to the easy widespread phenomena, the local public is being warned to stay away from consuming raw fruits and date palms.

Supportive care is the only backbone of its treatment. Infected persons require intensive care supervision. There is no specific treatment or remedy for this disease and infection. Therefore, prevention is the best cure for keeping yourself safe and away from the outburst of this massive virus infection. Hospitals and medical authorities need to ensure that they spread the awareness about the symptoms, causes, and preventions of this deadly virus infection.

Not only patients but also the caregivers, the nurses and the doctors are at a serious risk of virus transmission during the process cure. Recently, a 33 years old nurse who was working with an infected diseased was also detected with this same virus during the process of treatments. Both the diseased and the nurse died. So, this has again become a warning sign and a challenge among the medical facilities and treatments. It can take away the lives of the diseased, the respondents, the nurses, the doctors, and anyone. Later, the body of the infected nurse was cremated immediately so as to prevent any further spreading of the virus. Even her family members were not allowed to meet her or pay respect during her cremation. This example has actually made us realize that how much personal risk these medical workers are taking in order to serve their patients.

 Nipah Virus Treatment or Cure:

According to WHO, at present, there is research being undertaken to prevent Nipah virus. Hence there are no specific vaccines available Intensive supportive care is provided. Experts suggest that detecting of the disease at its initial stages is crucial for its prevention and cure. The only way to treat this virus is through intensive supportive care.

Until now, doctors are struggling to find out a complete solution for its cure. There is no antiviral therapy, and no vaccination reported for Nipah virus till now. There is no vaccination for this disease neither for humans nor for animals. The infected patients are therefore given a supportive care for its treatments because it can be overcome and defeated.

As of now, the treatments are only being limited to providing a supportive care to the patients. However, every possible measure is being taken to prevent the virus from spreading any further. A vaccine is being developed to beat the cause of this epidemic, however, it is a promising task altogether. WHO has already passed this order for the medical researchers and experts to the device the vaccination and related treatments at their earliest.

Treatments are mostly focused on controlling the fever and other symptoms. Severe cases may need to be kept in ventilators. The diseased are generally kept in isolation and intensive care units. Although there are no absolute vaccination or cure for this disease, however, preventive measures can be taken to lock the virus from spreading further.

Putting people in the ventilators and taking their utmost priority care, providing them the required fluids and treatments are the only ways to recover a person to the maximum possible extent. Effective solutions for the cure is being awaited. Till then, prevention and support are the only solutions. Supportive care and specialized treatments the limits for curing this deadly virus. The virus can be avoided by refraining yourself from the affected regions and taking preventive measure.

A detailed post by InfoClinic in Malayalam says that it is critical to cover one’s face while transporting the dead body of anyone who dies after contracting Nipah fever. The post also says that relatives should try to refrain from hugging or kissing the dead person and should take utmost care while bathing the body before cremation or burial.

NiV: The Panic

Nipah virus infections are one of the worst and deadliest disease. It is a fact that Nipah virus is not airborne. It cannot spread without a touch to the diseased. But, if by any means the virus once enters the body, it contaminates the brain and then it becomes very difficult to kill that virus. It may be fatal. Presently, there is a panic going on throughout the state of Kerala due to the outspread of this deadly virus. It is highly recommended that you test yourself as soon as you feel any such symptoms or you come in contact with any infected bats, pigs, or human from the affected regions. Precautions need to be taken by the medical workers for utmost safety of health, hygiene, and contamination.

This virus cannot be transmitted from one person to other like measles or flu gets transmitted. Rather, these viruses can only be transmitted if one gets in touch or comes in contact with the other or the infected person. Presently, Nipah virus cases are only reported from remote areas. However, there are a number of Nipah virus-infected bats that are circulating throughout in the open.

Avoid direct contact with bats, pigs, humans who are infected in particular region should be practiced. If persons attending the afflicted feel uneasy then its advisable for them to get tested thoroughly from a recognized facility. And Health professionals attending to such patients should take precautionary measures, such as wearing masks and gloves.

How to Use Prega News Kit

Prega News Kit is a very safe and reliable product to diagnose and test your pregnancy by yourself. These kits can be used at your home or in hospitals, as per your comfort. Prega News kit can be bought from any local medical store near you, across the countries. It is only a physical product and it does not have any linkage with the functions of your body or body parts.

HOW to Find out your Prega News Kit test Result?

Check for your pregnancy after 1 month of your missed menstruation. The test results are indicated by pink lines in the kit card. If only 1 pink line appears on the card then it means that the result is negative and you are not pregnant. On the contrary, if 2 pink lines appear on the card then it means that the result is positive and you are pregnant. Furthermore, if you don’t find any pink lines on the card then you can infer that the test was void and can be repeated for confirmation. If the results are invalid or void then it may also indicate that you were not able to use the card properly with the urine.

When We should Use Prega News Kit?

Tests are generally to be used after you miss your periods, i.e., either on the first day when you miss your period or on the next day or after that. However, you can also use the kit for testing before your period starts, there is no harm in that. The result will in anyway be correct. Generally, after testing, the kit card shows you the result within 5 minutes.

Can We Use one Prega News Kit twice ?

Each test kit is to be used only once and should not be reused again for the test. For every test reconfirmations you may need to get a separate prega news kit set. Full instructions of how to use the kit is also mentioned in the kit cover. Simply follow the instructions mentioned overleaf. If you have missed your menstrual cycle and yet tested negative, then you need to consult a doctor regarding your missed/missing period.

 Right Time for PNK Test

It is recommended that you test for your pregnancy during your morning urine cycle because the first morning urine contains a high amount of pregnancy hormone known as HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin hormone. This hormone is found in the first morning urine of a pregnant female and therefore this tool is used to confirm your pregnancy. However, it is just a recommendation and not a rule. You may also use this prega news kit during the day time or at any point of time as per your convenience, with a fresh urine. Any urine that gets stored in your urinary bladder for more than 4-5 hours gets high on HCG hormone present in the urine. For this, drinking of water can also be helpful.

Feeling unsatisfied After first test

After making a first attempt for the test, if you still feel unsatisfied, then you may anytime repeat the test for sure without any second thought of safety concerns. For your information, there are no side effects of using a prega news kit. You can repeat your pregnancy test after 1 week or so.

How Accurate Test Results it Gives?

The test results are about 97-99% accurate. However, these inaccuracies may vary from brand to brand or depending on its handling. Several clinics and hospitals also use these kits for testing. They either detect and test from your urine sample or from your blood test sample. The presence of HCG hormone in your urine or in your blood is to be tested for the confirmation.
