  • Follicle development: the follicles are the fluid-filled sacs where the eggs mature. When you take these medications, you should visit your doctor every 3 to 4 days to have your blood hormone levels checked and to observe your ovaries under ultrasound.
  • The trigger shot: when the follicles are ready, you will be given a trigger shot which is a medicine that causes your eggs to mature fully. They are then capable of being fertilized. After 36 hours of the trigger shot, your eggs are ready to be retrieved.
  • Gathering the eggs: the doctor inserts an ultrasound probe into your vagina to observe the ovaries and follicles. A needle is then inserted through the vaginal wall to remove the egg from the follicle. About 8 to 15 eggs are obtained.
  • Fertilization: the embryologist will check the quality of the eggs before combining it with the sperms. Fertilization takes place during this time. ICSI –intracytoplasmic sperm injection is a technique in which each sperm is directly inserted into the mature eggs.
  • Developing embryos: after the retrieval of the eggs, the eggs that are successfully fertilized will form a 6 to 10 celled embryo. By the 5th day, the embryo will become blastocysts with fluid-filled cavity and tissues that will develop into placenta and baby.
  • Embryo selection: after the egg retrieval, the embryologist will choose the most viable embryo to place it into the uterus. If there are any extra embryos, it can be preserved for future IVF cycles.
  • Planting the embryo: the doctor will place 1 to 5 embryos in your uterus, depending on the diagnosis and your age. It is placed using a catheter. One might feel slight cramping but you’ll not need an anesthesia.
  • Successful implantation: if the treatment is successful, then the embryo implants in your uterine wall and grows into a baby. If more than one embryo is transferred the chances of getting pregnant are more. About 20%of IVF cases will give birth to twins, triplets, or more.

What is the role of men?

Around the time, when your partner’s eggs are collected, you will have to produce the sample of your sperms. The sperms will be washed and prepared so that the active ones are separated from the poor quality ones.

How long will IVF take?

The duration is about 6 to 8 weeks to complete one IVF cycle. You will have to wait for a week for the eggs to get mature. Then, consult your doctor to have the eggs retrieved and fertilized. Do cell phones cause cancer? The definite answer to this question would still take decades. Meanwhile, more and more studies are showcasing the fact that the non-ionizing radiations emitted from the cell phones are not completely safe and have a greater risk of causing cancer. The cell phones, including smartphones, emit a form of energy called as Radio Frequency waves (RF). These radiations are suspected of causing brain tumor or other kinds of tumors in the head and neck area.

Remember, people once thought smoking was non-injurious to health. Today, are we risking good health by using smart phones and cell phones?

Researches and studies have shown that exposure to very high signal cell phone radiation can increase the risk of malignant gliomas in the brain or schwannomas of the heart. The schwannomas are the tumors that develop in the nerve sheath.

  • ¨ Keep it out of your pocket: don’t keep your cell phones in your pocket or below the pillow even if you are not talking. This is because the cell phones will constantly transmit radiations to the nearby towers thereby exposing you to radiations.
  • ¨ Text more and talk less: texting reduces the length of radiation exposure from your body. When you hit “send” keep the phone slightly away from your body.
  • ¨ Don’t use your cell as an alarm clock:  avoid using your mobiles as alarm clocks, even if you do so then put your mobiles in “airplane mode”. This will cut-off the radiations emitted by the cell phone thus avoiding sleep-disrupting cell phone radiations.
  • ¨ Don’t use your mobiles while moving at high speeds: avoid using phones in cars, buses, trains, elevators etc. This is because the radiation increases as you move because the phone tries to connect to each nearby network antenna.

Intra-uterine device

An intra-uterine device (IUD) is a small T-shaped birth control device which is usually made of plastic and wrapped with copper or hormones. This device is inserted into the women’s uterus to prevent pregnancy. A plastic string is tied to the end of the IUD that hangs down the vagina through the cervix. One can check if the IUD is in place by feeling this string. This string is also used by the doctors to remove the IUD.

TYPES OD IUDs:

There are 2 types of IUDs that are usually preferred. They are:

  • ¨ Hormonal IUD
  • ¨ Copper IUD

The hormonal IUD releases a form of progestin hormone called as levonorgestrel. This type of IUD is found to be the most effective form of contraception than the copper IUDs. They can prevent pregnancy for 3 to 5 years.

The copper IUD is the most commonly used IUD. A copper wire is wound around the stem of the T-shaped device. This can prevent pregnancy for 10 years.

Insertion & working of IUDs:

The insertion of IUD into the uterus is done with help of a specialized doctor. An IUD can be inserted anytime into a women’s body provided she is not pregnant or have a pelvic infection. The insertion procedure takes only a few minutes and sometimes an anesthetic may be given in the area around the cervix.

The main function of the IUD is to prevent the fertilization of the egg by killing or damaging the sperms. The hormonal IUD prevents the fertilization of the egg by killing or damaging the sperms. It makes the mucus in the cervix thick and sticky so that the sperm can’t get through the uterus. It also weakens the uterine lining so that it becomes a poor place for the fertilized egg to implant and grow. The hormone in this IUD also reduces the menstrual cramping and bleeding.

Copper is toxic to the sperm. The copper enables the fallopian tube and uterus to produce a fluid that consists of copper ions, enzymes, white blood cells and prostaglandins that kill the sperms.

What to expect after the treatment and follow-up procedure:

One may experience mild cramping or bleeding after the insertion of IUD. You are not expected to have sex within 24 hours of insertion. You should have a follow-up with your doctor after 4 to 6 weeks of the insertion. Ensure to check the string of the IUD after every period. To do this, insert your finger into the vagina and feel for the plastic string coming out of the cervix. If you cannot feel the string then it doesn’t mean that your IUD has expelled. Sometimes it is difficult to feel the string. There are chances that the string has been pulled up by the cervical canal.

When can it be done?

Women can undergo an IUD if she fits into one of the below categories;

  • Do not have a pelvic infection at the time of insertion
  • If a woman is breastfeeding
  • If she is not prone to sexually transmitted diseases
  • If she do not want to use birth control pills
  • If she prefers a long-acting method of birth control

Expulsion: about 1 out of 100 women may experience expulsion. The IUD may be expelled out of the vagina.

  • It may cause hormonal side effects as that caused by oral contraception.

Answer for Can I get pregnant?

Theoretically, the answer to your question is- YES. The pre-cum might contain some amount of sperm, which could get transferred though the finger and might cause pregnancy. However, taking on practical front, this is highly improbable that the small amount of sperm cells in the precum can get transferred to the vagina and cause pregnancy. The amount of sperm cell is very low in pre-cum. Even, if its there, chance of its getting stuck to the finger and travel deep inside vagina and impregnate the one is very less. Relax and remain assured!

Having one testicle is not a very major problem, but it is important to rule out undescended testis. Sometimes the testis get held up in the abdomen or inguinal canal and fail to descend downwards. This condition is rare but if present can cause serious problem like testicular cancer. I would recommend you to consult a male gynaecologist who would examine you thoroughly; sometimes the doctor can palpate the testis in the inguinal canal. If it is not apparent, then the doctor might advise for USG abdomen which would help to locate the undescended testis in the abdomen.
As far as fertility is concerned, there is no guarantee that people with two testes are completely fertile. One testicle is usually sufficient to produce semen and testosterone. If this is concerning you, then I would suggest a simple semen analysis test which would give a fair idea about your fertility. In the 1st method of IVF both male and female gametes are collected from other couple and then allow them for fertilization in test tube after fertilisation 2n cell (Zygote) is transferred to the fallopian tube. When one of the parent is incapable to produce gamete so one gamete can be burrowed form other.

In 2nd case when fallopian tube is blocked proper medicines are provided to the female to unblock the fallopian tube or directly zygote is transferred to the mother womb (Uterus).

In the last and third case some hormonal treatment is given to mother so that a zygote can transplant. Now a days so many IVF center are in India.

Because your problem is compounded as you both suffer from conditions which diminish the chance for natural conception. Even if yo go for laproscopy and your problem gets treated, chance are less for natural conception because of oligoasthenoteratozoospermia of your husband. WE would suggest you not to waste time and money and go for IVF. If, you choose laproscopy, it wont damage your ovary or disturb the hormonal level, if it is done properly.
