How to stay Hydrated in Summer?

How much of you be drinking every day to stay hydrated? it’s pretty basic question, but no clear-cut answer to this. Water is the one nutrient we can’t survive without for long. As summer hits, you need to keep in mind few important tips to stay hydrated through the hot temperatures.

1.Drink enough water to prevent dehydration:

Drink at least 8 ounces glasses of water per day. In the morning, immediately after waking up, have one glass of water. Drinking enough water will also keep your skin dehydrated and will reduce the amount of skin dehydration.

If you’re too bored of consuming regular water, then go for coconut water. Coconut water consists of potassium, magnesium, sodium, and calcium, and is a mineral-rich liquid which helps in replenishing lost fluids and electrolytes.

2. Avoid caffeine, energy drinks and alcohol:

A very common idea is that an ice cold coke or an iced coffee would help one to deal with the heat, but in reality, these drinks dehydrate you even more. Similarly avoid alcohol as much as possible. If you are going to drink alcohol then make sure you drink enough water after each alcohol beverages, as this will help in balancing and will reduce the amount of dehydration.

3. Consume water-filled fruits and veggies:

Fruits like watermelon, melon, strawberries, berries, oranges, and cantaloupes will keep you hydrated.

4. Exfoliate your skin:

Exfoliation helps in removing dull and dead skin debris to prevent congestion and thus improves your skin and hydrates it. Also, exfoliate your skin at night to remove unnecessary makeup and oil from your skin.

Few of the natural and safe remedies for staying tan-free are given below:

  • Go for a cool shower and bath immediately to make your skin cool and minimize the acuteness of your sunburn.
  • Apply fresh coconut water on the tanning affected areas and leave it for at least 30 minutes and then rinse it off with cold water to uncover a natural fairer skin. Virgin coconut oils will also help.

  • Keep your skin hydrated by drinking ample amount of water and other fluids.

Precautionary Ways to Stay Tan-Free:

  • Don’t forget to carry an umbrella with you whenever you step out in the open sun to protect your skin from the direct UV rays of the sun.
  • Go beyond the recommended daily water consumption of 8 glasses and keep yourself hydrated throughout the day by drinking some extra amount of fluids and water, at least if you are exposed to the hot weather.
  • Apply the right sunscreen lotion to the uncovered areas of your skin before stepping out in the sun.
  • Try to take small breaks from the sun and seek some shade to minimize the intensity of UV radiations and reduce the risk of tanning.
  • Use sunglasses while stepping out in the sun to protect your delicate areas of the eye. Today, most of the sunglasses offer a complete UV protection. Such sunglasses may be preferred.
  • Wearing a big hat or a scarf will provide an excellent coverage to your head and face apart from giving you the cooling shade that your skin desires.

Swine flu is a respiratory disease caused by the viruses that particularly infect the respiratory tract of the pigs. Is swine flu contagious?

The swine influenza virus usually comes from HINI type. The other types include H1N2, H3N1, H3N2. It is important that the virus is a combination of flu genes from birds, human flu & swine.

There is a common misconception that swine flu is developed from eating cooked pork products. This is definitely not! It is spread through either ingestion or inhalation of droplets through sneezing or coughing from people who have already been victims of swine flu. The newest swine influenza that has caused swine flu is the A H2N3v. In this “v” means the variant which means originally it infected only pigs but now it has begun to infect even humans.

The incubation period for swine flu is normally 1 to 4 days with the average being 2 days. In some cases. The incubation period may last for 7 days in both adults and children. The contagious period begins one day ahead before symptoms arise in the individual and usually lasts for 6 to 7 days. In people with weak immune systems, the contagious period may last even longer for 10 to 14 days.

The symptoms of swine flu are similar to other influenza infections. It includes:

The viruses can develop resistance to these drugs so these are usually referred to people who are at high complications and are unable to fight the disease on their own. Other people who are healthy and are still suffering from swine flu are capable of fighting the viruses on their own.

Some people are at increased risk of being affected by swine flu. It includes:

  • Adults above 65 years of age  
  • children below 5 years of age
  • People with chronic disease
  • Pregnant women
  • People with weakened immune system
  • Teens receiving long-term aspirin therapy

PREVENTING SWINE FLU:

One best way to prevent swine flu is to take the yearly vaccination. Apart from this, there is some measure which we can adapt to keep ourselves healthy and free from swine flu.

  • Wash hands frequently with soaps & sanitizer.
  • The virus can survive on the surface of tables, telephones, etc. At these times the virus remains inactive. You may touch these palaces and unknowingly keep the hand in your mouth or nose which paves way for the virus to entire your body and become significantly active.
  • If you are sick it is better to stay at home rather than going to school or office for work
  • Avoid going to places with large gatherings when swine flu is in season.
