1. Protection from UV rays:

The first and foremost task is to reduce the exposure of your skin and eyes to Ultra-Violet rays or the UVR. These Ultra-Violet rays results to many health problems like cataract development and eye cancer. There are three ranges of UVR: UV-C, UV-B, and UV-A; most of the damage related to the eyes is caused by the UV-B rays.

To protect your eyes from such harmful rays wear glasses with UV filter that blocks 99 to 100 percent UV rays. In spite of using sunglasses with UV filters, one should also use a hat as sunglasses usually have gaps along the side where UVR exposure occurs. UV rays can also cause photokeratitis or photo conjunctivitis.

2. Apply Sunblocks:

Sunblocks or sunscreen helps a lot in protecting eyes from the harmful UV rays. Sunblocks should be applied properly and not in a haphazard manner. One must not apply sun blocks too close to the eye areas as it can cause irritation also.

3. Avoid rubbing your hands:

As we all know that summer means a patchy weather and you’ll sweat a lot, which will also increase the spread of communicable diseases. Make sure you always wash your hands on a daily basis and avoid rubbing eyes as much as possible. Summer also increases itchiness around your eye area, so do not rub your eyes with unclean hands.

4. Protection from Sties:

Stay develops as an accumulation of dead cells and germs, which increases bacteria. One should prevent sties by maintaining eyelid hygiene during summer. One must also avoid the use of expired cosmetics, skin care products or dirty towels.

5. Drink More Water:

During hot summer days, one must keep oneself properly hydrated. Keeping oneself properly hydrated during summer also protects one’s eyes from dehydration.

6. Maintain a Healthy Diet:

To protect the eyes from summer, one must maintain a healthy diet and should add eye-boosting minerals and vitamins to their diet like lutein and zeaxanthin along with omega fatty acids, Vitamin C and Vitamin E. Fruits and veggies which are water-filled can also be consumed.

7. Protection from indoor and outdoor activities and also physical injuries:

While performing indoor and outdoor activities one should always wear protective goggles, to protect their eyes from the hazards such as mowing the lawn or house renovation. Wearing goggles will also reduce the tendency of physical injuries relating to the eyes.
