My was prescribed 500mg of Metronidazole 500mg X3 aday for 14 days. She states that it is to kill intestinal parasites however she can not tell me which one.  Is there a list of internal parasites that this medication is used to treat at such a high dose?

Metronidazole, marketed under the brand name Flagyl among others, is an antibiotic and antiprotozoal medication. It is used either alone or with other antibiotics to treat pelvic inflammatory disease, endocarditis, and bacterial vaginosis. It fights bacteria in your body. Metronidazole is used to treat bacterial infections of the vagina, stomach, skin, joints, and respiratory tract. This medication will not treat a vaginal yeast infection.
