Dear Freedoctorhelpline, I am an exchange student in Seoul South Korea, white male 22 years old. 2 weeks after having arrived in Seoul I felt tremendous amounts of hair on my pillow, shower, during styling with wax. At first, my hair started to get a lot thinner on the top of my scalp predominantly and crown. It gets so severe that I can see my scalp and start having bald spots. There is NO baldness in my family, I\’ve started to take more vitamins and B-complex but nothing seems to work. I am originally from Amsterdam, where the water is extremely soft on the contrary of Seoul where the water is extremely hard. I used to take 2 showers a day, one in the morning (just rinsing) and one in the evening with shampoo to get rid of my wax/hair product. These days I don\’t even style my hair anymore, because of the severe amount of hair I lose every time. Even the texture of my hair feels totally different from what I am used to. Today I went to a dermatologist, they took photos of my scalp and next week I have to come back so they can check it again.   I wonder what you guys might think? I have no diseases (known), allergies (known) and I do not take any medicine. I do sleep considerably worse these days and I also have diarrhea. The food here is low in nutritions, usually only rice and noodles with a bit of veggies/meat. So the past few days I\’ve been cooking for myself and have eggs each morning, broccoli in the evening for iron. My scalp also itched for a few days.   Hope you guys can help me out, I feel devastated.    Stephan

Most likely, this sudden hairball is due to hard water. It contains high amounts of magnesium, silica and calcium, which lead to breakage, dryness and thinning of hair. Hard water also leads to dandruff and destroys your hair follicles. Use water softener so as to avoid hard water for washing hair. This would prevent further loss of hair. Take Vitamin E capsules regularly to improve your hair texture.
